i overheard him say to her "you know I've always been in love with you right?"

i'm not sure if she saw him later that night or not but as i listened i wondered how many other conversations where taking place in los angeles just like this one... then i wondered whether or not the women of these men had any idea that they may be boisterously professing their love for another woman at places as central as starbucks or perhaps over email or text message... or facebook....

i know several men that are in relationships or even married to remarkable women whom are i'm sure a variety of special things, and yet these men want some one else... or could it be anyone else. what is that restless feeling, and when does it occur in people? when does what you have - all that you have, become inadequate? is there a constant comparison between what you have chosen and what you think you want?

is it really as simply as; men are hunters and seekers, and women are nurturers and nesters? is a man simply not built to be happy at "home" for the remainder of his years? are women hard wired to accept the restrictions accompanied with the concept of commitment and marriage?

are we all headed for our own versions of the ending of the film revolutionary road?

I was listening to a show called "Desert Island Discs" on BBC radio a year back and on this day Whoppi Goldberg was the guest. One third of the way into the interview the host Kirsty Young asked Whoppi about one of her marriage ceremonies. When the ordained minister asked the usual"Do you take ______ for better or worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, til death do you part?" Instead of saying "I Do", Whoppi replied "Maybe." Friends and family probably found it a tiny bit alarming but mostly amusing (I'm sure) as Whoopi Goldberg is known to be quite a character, but the most interesting part of this true story is when asked WHY Whoopi responded with "maybe" she had this to say:

"The truth is that I'm not good at it. I love the wedding part. I love that everyone is always happy but its the day after that I have trouble with ... Its having to think about someone else constantly who isn't a child. I don' t think love should be executed as a duty. You shouldn't have to feel like if you don't respond a certain way, it goes against the grain of the relationship because the couple isn't always coupling, you must have time alone."

TUTORIAL #3 "How To Make Things Simple"

Many times in life we spend several moments humming and hawing over how we should address something, or manage something, or what decision or direction to move towards. In essence we can make almost everything extremely complicated quite easily. Here is a wonderful tutorial on How To Make Things Simple. Its much easier than you can imagine. There are a few steps I have created as tools to help you divide and concur.

1. HOW DO YOU REALLY FEEL? - in order to make things "simple" the first step is to decide how you really feel about them (quite simply). Pay close attention to your natural/authentic emotions and thoughts; they are either negative or positive. If too many negatives come to mind and you feel a bit wretched, then you can be sure that perhaps this person, place or things is NOT for you. If you initially feel quite calm and good or even excited about a person, place, or thing then its quite possible that it is something positive for you. Your intuition (that inner voice you hear), some even call this a "gut feeling"- needs far more attention than you are obviously giving it. How you originally feel and what you authentically feel about something is the foundation for your decision making. Its when we allow our minds to convince us otherwise that we become confused and manipulated. Stick to your GUT!

2. PUT IT INTO SIMPLE WORDS - Once you have identified your position regarding a specific person place or thing you must find the simplest way to convey your truth. Stop being afraid to disagree or have a difference of opinion. Define who you are. When you are clear about what you feel, all thats left to do is to convey it. "I disagree, I think it is a terrible idea for us to go because of X,Y, and Z" or "I think you are a fantastic person but I am not ready to date you because of X, Y, and Z" or even " I am no longer going to be able to be a part of ______ because of X, Y, and Z"(although I have given examples of when something doesn't feel right, the same principals apply when the statement is a positive one). The fact of that is matters not how well someone accepts your truth (you can not be responsible for their reactions), what matters is whether or not you are someone that can claim confidence in the position you take about a person, place or thing. Be respectful, but be honest.

3. TAKE A DEEP BREATH - You've done the hard part; you've identified how you feel about the person or matter in question, you have articulated this and now there is nothing really left. There is no argument to be had and no drama that needs to ensue in your lovely mind or heart. If the other party tries to rope you into an argument (because they disagree) you simply (and calmly) listen until they are finished and repeat what you said at first (as they obviously are having a hard time accepting). You can even say "I'm sorry that you are having a hard time accepting this" but ultimately when you are an adult existing with other adults there are simply going to be several difference between you.... and thats okay. Keep it simple by identifying how you REALLY feel about a thing and then just Get On With It!

I KNEW NOW WHAT I HAD SO MUCH WANTED TO KNOW. The face of Frederic while he made love to Francoise and the voice of Frederic in the night with Francoise. I knew how he caressed her and I knew how he was with her. I knew it was different from the way Frederic was with me. I knew that he still desired Francoise and I knew that he loved me. And so, I could let him go free; I could give Francoise back to him if he wanted her, and yet I would know that I was not rejected and excluded by him. should he not be happy now that he had all he wanted? Wasn't this the only thing to do? And when his desire for Francoise would begin to wear itself out, wouldn't I have my Frederic again to myself entirely to myself?
   Both of them loved me; it was again as in my childhood. I was there between them, petted, caressed. They didn't in any way resent my being there. I didn't separate then; they had nothing to give up because of me. And in return they covered me with caresses and kisses. Why was it that the hand of Francoise continuously came back to seek me as thought to reassure me that everything was well, that Frederic loved only me. That everything else was only physical?
   I kept telling myself that I did not need or want to be reassured by her. That I knew perfectly well everything was fine. That I didn't have any fear of Francoise. There was the voice of Frederic in my ear, with words that I hardly understood, crushed, crushed as I was against him....

TUTORIAL #2 "How To Look Effortless Walking In Really High Shoes"

First of all, it matters not in the slightest to me who you are and what you do but EVERY woman should own a pair of shoes that is so HIGH she is always a tiny bit nervous to wear them! Although High High heels (stilettos) are a bit intimidating, they are also essential as there is always going to be an occasion that calls for you to wear them. Always. I have listed my tips on How To Look Effortless Walking In Really High Shoes. Appear as though you were born with stilettos glued to your feet at birth.

1. PRACTICE - In the event that you were not born with a divine arch in your foot, and presuming you are not a trained dancer or gymnast, you MUST practice wearing tall shoes. (And God help you if you were born with terribly flat feet!) If you don't have any, PURCHASE SOME or use a friend's until you can. When sliding your well manicured foot into the stiletto, really look at the shape of the shoe. Where are its strengths and weaknesses (in other words: where is the support? Are there straps around the base of the foot or are there straps at the ankles? Are there straps at all?) Observe how the exquisite thing is crafted. The trick (and here is the part where you need to pay attention) is balance. Keep the weight of your body on the ball of your foot, more specifically your focus is over your big toe. This ensures that you won't go timbering over from side to side when you walk. This also ensures that you don't walk leaning back on the sliver of a heel provided by the fabulous shoe maker. You must walk and even run up and down, squat and lunge, kick and climb in these things until you no longer have to look down and worry about your balance. When you have achieved this (congratulations) you are ready for a test run...

2. TRY THEM OUT - Once your comfort and balance has been mastered with a particular pair of stilettos... Try Them Out!! I would suggest you slap them on for a dinner party where a great deal of walking will not be required. The movies may also be a good choice seeing as walking is also limited for this activity. For your first Test Run, you want to make sure that you give yourself the opportunity to strut in these fantastically tall shoes without spending hours on your feet.

3. CHOOSE THE RIGHT OUTFIT - There is no point of wearing a remarkable pair of tall stilettos if you are going to over shadow them with a ridiculously over the top outfit! Have you ever heard of the phrase "less is more"? Well its accurate. In the event that you have a jaw dropping, eye watering, and outstanding pair of tall shoes let them get all the glory. I once sat next to Victoria Beckham and family court side at a LA Lakers game and Victoria was wearing these amazing Christian Louboutins stilettos with .... (wait for it).... skinny jeans and a white tank top. That was IT! That's a woman who knows when to let the shoes have the glory. If you are wearing a fab over the top, jaw dropping, eye watering, and outstanding outfit then wear tall stilettos that compliment the ensembles (not ones that pull attention away from it).

4. CONFIDENCE - If you are bold enough to employ the use of tall shoes and I'm speaking of 4 inches or higher, then you had better "own" them! Behave as though you have been wearing these types of shoes your entire existence! The shoes are not wear you my dear friend, it is YOU that are wearing these Really High Shoes! Head up, shoulders back, legs elongated when you step, smile beaming and of course NEVER LOOK DOWN. EVER (not that you'd need to because after all you are now a professional .... this is THE ONLY WAY to do it I'm afraid.

TUTORIAL #1 - "How To Get Along With Women You Don't Care For"

Hello There! Good first topic to start off my new "Tutorials" Category if I don't say so myself. But seriously, we as people (especially women) often find ourselves in circumstances where we are forced to "mix" with other women we DON'T LIKE and one can become a bit wearisome when ill equipped. Soooo How To Get Along With Woman You Don't Care For:

1. YOUR OUTFIT - As sad and as superficial as it is, when you are anticipating existing in the company of those you dislike you must LOOK YOUR BEST. Chances are that more than 6 times out of 10 the ones you don't particularly care for also do not particularly care for you. It is important to be "armored" in attire that makes you feel amazing. Just as you are picking them apart and shredding them to pieces, they are also going to be doing the same to you. Pay attention to YOUR details; make up, shoes, accessories, nails

2. YOUR DISPOSITION - No matter the level of discomfort you may be experiencing, tap into your greatest resource; yourself! If you have the luxury of being in the company of some (even one) of your friends it is important to enjoy them!! Have a nice time even if it kills you. Remain independent of the energy of the one you dislike. There is no point of looking amazing and then miserably glancing over constantly at the one you dread. In the event that you have to speak and be communal with one another it is best advised to keep a cheerful disposition. Be sunny and sweet! You automatically lose the upper hand if you fall from grace and allow her to be the sweet, and gracious one. Which leads me to...

3. CONVERSATION - Sometimes you have to speak to these loathsome creatures if for no other reason then to be polite. Maybe you have friends in common or perhaps you have to work together, regardless it is important to bankrupt them of their ability to strike you with a look, a comment, or even their energy. Best way to maneuver in an uncomfortable circumstance is to compliment this person and be your interesting, comfortable self. Do not lose sight of the fact that you are in complete control of how the circumstance will play out between the two of you. All that is required is for you to regard her as a friend (even if its a lie), you must make yourself comfortable and the simplest way to do so is to make her someone you can be comfortable around!

4. WATCH THE TIME - There is absolutely no need for the "moment" between you and this person to be everlasting. Once you have controlled the scene by playing the lead actress in your own personal day time drama, find the EXIT. It could be an "it was nice to see you, you look great" or "have you seen so and so" or even (laughing at your last joke) "I have GOT to go to the bathroom". It doesn't really matter how you exit, just exit before you are stuck "building" a relationship you may not desire with the undesirable. Keep it short and keep it cute... who knows.. you may even enjoy speaking to the little bleeder after all!

5. NEVER LOOK BACK - Once you have been spotted looking and (most importantly) feeling your best, contact has been made and you have successfully created a level of comfort with the undesired and once you have escaped, never look back! Leave it on a high note. Enjoy the rest of the occasion and get on with your life. If by chance you have an impromptu run in, simply SMILE. Leave it at what it was and be happy that this mosquito has fluttered off without so much as landing on you and drawing even a single drop of blood. As a matter of fact, she will either hate you because not she can not help but like you or she will hate you because you are extremely unaffected by her, or she will get over herself and see how fabulous you are and have always been. This all equates to: YOU WIN. Of course you both win if you can get over what ever it is you dislike about each other and become (dare I say it) friends...

Happiness is this illusive thing that appears and re appears in ones life a multitude of times. Like a shadow; it is there and identified one minute and then gone the next. Like the way a cloud moves across the sky and changes form.. some times move visible and sometimes not. Maintaining the feeling or experience of happiness is meant to derive out of simplicity, but often times we come to believe that a certain person, place or thing will be the source of our happiness. If we can have or obtain that "thing" we will feel that euphoric feeling "Happiness" even if only for a little while.... only in the stillness and surrender or "wants" or "ego" do we come to understand what it is that we need.. which tends to not be very much. "Happiness" is always accurately calculated when one considers how they look at themselves, how they feel about themselves-naked in the stillness, without possessions and with no one to anchor themselves onto.

I saw my beautiful friend and we shared wine and appetizers and we TALKED! It was amazing and I treasure him..... some people are forever, they are special gifts that we acknowledge and appreciate. When you are full in your heart, everything else is a bonus. goodnight friends.

Perspective

I see this woman as the bird who once lived in the cage. She was confined by her environment, captured and contained. After years and months and weeks and days, she comes to understand that she is only in this position, perched on a metal bar in a metal cage, eating food that is prepared for her and chosen by her master because she chose to be captured. There was no fight, no resistance, no rebuttal because she willingly went. She felt (quite foolishly) that perhaps living in the wild wasn't as fulfilling as becoming a domestic and submissive creature. Over time she missed the open air. She missed soaring and fending for herself, she missed everything she had ever known about herself. She wanted desperately to belong somewhere and to some one, however doing what she wanted when she pleased was a luxury that satisfied her..... Magically and all at once she understood very clearly that it was over when she wished it to be. Although she knew he would miss her as she had gravely missed a part of herself, she carefully and strategically unhinged the latch to the cage and let herself free.... the E N D

NEOMIE LENOIR!!

I was in New York several years ago and it was my birthday. I was having dinner in a popular restaurant (soon to turn) night club and had gotten up from the table to use the restroom. As I opened the swinging doors I was met with one of the most beautiful faces I had ever seen. She was taller than me, much skinnier than me, but we shared the same gorgeous curly hair. When our eyes met, I saw that her's were green. She was young and unusual looking. I didn't realize at the time that I was looking at Neomie Leroir, a model from France who was on the brink of a massive contract with Marks & Spenser Lingerie. A campaign that would make her quite famous.

In the years ensuing this encounter I began to see her everywhere, not in person, but nonetheless Everywhere! It was amazing to see how someone I had just met could reach such plateaus. There is a long portfolio of photographs, commercials and advertisements that Neomie has gone on to do. The photographs in this post are from a recent editorial shoot Neomie did in Russia for London Vogue (June 2010).
A month prior to doing this fab shoot in June 2010, Neomie appeared to be battling some personal problems. The model who is also the mother of a six year old son with Makelele (a former Chelsea and Real Madrid player), and who had recently been dating Switzerland native Carl Hirschmann (a millionaire businessman) had been rushed to the hospital for treatment of an oversdose. Neomie was found in a forest by the home of the father of her child Claude Makelele. Makelele was not said to be home at the time of the incident and has not had any comments to make.
Neomie recovered from the incident and was obviously interested in resuming her career and work when agreeing to do this shoot for London Vogue a month later.
I haven't heard much more from Neomie but look forward to the happenings in her career. Such a beautiful woman, its hard not to be entranced

So.... I have been thinking about what attracts us to people and what equally repels us?

I have found that I am utterly attracted to the people I have called my friends and even some I have called Lovers, and then over the graciousness of time, after the honest truth about all of their characters has been revealed I become extremely allergic to some. What all can you REALLY accept about people? How many of their dysfunctional "moments" or "episodes" that stain your life do you endure before you are faced with the relentless fact that they are "not right for you" ?? How, when you've become accustomed to accepting and loving someone, do you make the decision that they can no longer occupy the same space in your life? I've come to see that there are two people specifically (that I truly love and care very deeply for) that I do not enjoy the way I used to, and the relationships are becoming "work" when it never used to be. I understand growing pains and the reality of the shifting of life and one's priorities. However, it has become extremely clear that these persons are entering into the "damaging zone" - that place that tells me to "run for your life, this person is too much work". It saddens me, because unlike emotionally immature teenagers, I am not the sort to be reactive and "delete them" from Facebook, or BBM, nor am I the sort that will "block" or "un follow" them on twitter. I don't know how to throw nasty comments their way and to lash out in a fashion that is truly the opposite of actually communicating. All I know what to do is; sort out how I feel about them emotionally, and to make a decision (that does not involve gossiping to everyone I need to "take my side") as to what is left to salvage from this relationship with this person I care about but no longer require...

I think it takes a fearless and brave individual to "say goodbye". I don't know that I am this individual, but I am someone who knows when distance is Necessary. I am someone that knows when they have had enough and I trust my instincts. I am also someone who operates with a great deal of compassion.
