the amazing JONTE

BBC Radio Programs

I was listening to a show called "Desert Island Discs" on BBC radio a year back and on this day Whoppi Goldberg was the guest. One third of the way into the interview the host Kirsty Young asked Whoppi about one of her marriage ceremonies. When the ordained minister asked the usual"Do you take ______ for better or worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, til death do you part?" Instead of saying "I Do", Whoppi replied "Maybe." Friends and family probably found it a tiny bit alarming but mostly amusing (I'm sure) as Whoopi Goldberg is known to be quite a character, but the most interesting part of this true story is when asked WHY Whoopi responded with "maybe" she had this to say:

"The truth is that I'm not good at it. I love the wedding part. I love that everyone is always happy but its the day after that I have trouble with ... Its having to think about someone else constantly who isn't a child. I don' t think love should be executed as a duty. You shouldn't have to feel like if you don't respond a certain way, it goes against the grain of the relationship because the couple isn't always coupling, you must have time alone."

That's the beauty of it... you can wake up and drive to where ever you want. What's that called, that kind of freedom? Is it a luxury? Is it a lifestyle choice? Where ever you can dream, you can go. What ever you can imagine, you can be. I think its easier to be consumed with your own limitations, than it is to see all of your abilities and diversity. Everything is a choice, whether you see it that way or not...
